We arrived at lunchtime and were quickly seated and quickly served; we both ordered the local ale – the 19th brew IPA from the Eden brewery in nearby Guardbridge (bottles only at £3.80 but they do have West St. Mungo on tap for £2.00 a half/£3.90 a pint).

Chorizo and feta stuffed baby squid
3 big squid rings and 2 baby squid on top Lovely meaty chorizo minced and mixed with feta. An uncommon combo but we both love chorizo, feta and squid so decided to give it a go and it was lovely! Really strong flavoursome chorizo mixed with the more delicate crumbly feta and wrapped in well-cooked firm but not chewy squid rings. Fresh cherry tomatoes and olives
Ceviche of scallop with watermelon and pink grapefruit
Thinly sliced fresh scallop. No overpowering tastes, light, fresh and simple. Light battered onion
Beef was divine, sweet sauce but nicely salted.
Crisp rosti side of broccoli, chilli and garlic
tender stems with a kick.
Crab and courgette risotto
Lime creme fraiche and pea shoots. Creamy, light, not stodgy at all. Also had a side of house salad
Peas, beans, fresh leaves and tomato.
Dark chocolate mousse
This was huge, 2 brownies with a salted sorbet?! Slightly bizarre and interesting combo, but we couldn’t taste the saltiness from the sorbet but we did get a citrus background.
Vanilla parfait honey roasted apricots, salted honeycomb & pistachios
Crisp honeycomb with smooth parfait and crunch pistachios. So many
different layers of texture. Delicious.
Overall, a great meal at a total cost of £78 for two of us. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly; toilets: spotless; decor: relaxed stylish bistro with modern-art on the walls, and you could see the food being prepared in the kitchen, which we like to see. The food was delicious and the portions were good too. There’s outside seating for sunny days (and it was lovely when we visited) and a doggy water-bowl too.
