Gordon Street Coffee, 79 Gordon Street, Glasgow, G1 3SQ

Glasgow’s coffee scene is on the up!

We popped into the recently-opened Gordon St Coffee in Glasgow Central Station and were impressed. A large selection of cakes such as blondies and marshmallows with pistachio dust as well as delicious rolls.

Our first visit was to have a try of their house blend, very like Costa in style, mellow and not bitter. They have a stronger Glasgow Blend available too, this was also not bitter but a little deeper in taste than the house blend.

The shop roasts its coffee in house seemingly, which is good to get a variety of coffees available at different coffee houses.

Stepping in the design in minimalist with splashes of colour from their cups and packaging. You can stand on the ground floor or go upstairs and sit.

Milk, sugar, lemon and honey are all available to add to your drinks as well as Wee Tea Company tea.

The rolls are delish, we took some away with us at the weekend as a brunch, granary style rolls with a good amount of filling.

Handy for nipping into whilst heading to and from Central, and hopefully battle some of that Blue Lagoon smell!

Good to have another coffee house to visit on the travels.

Have you been to yet? What do you think?

WIN Christmas Giveaway Day 1 – Antipasti Platter for Two at Billington’s of Lenzie

Find out about Billingtons of Lenzie and WIN

We love Billington’s.  Its a foodie tardis, with a cosy seating area at the front of the shop serving everything from brunch to cocktails (menu here) and they have cold meats, baking, chocolates, ice cream and a tempting selection of craft beers (even Mr Foodie finds beers here he hasn’t tried!)  speciality spirits and fine wines. In fact, it has everything you need.  Hence our love (and the staff are all lovely as well).

They have just launched a new website where you can buy all sorts of goodies from beer to wine to macarons.  A handy section for Christmas is their Hampers & Gifts page.  Billington’s staff will make bespoke hampers or you can order them online.  As the wee meerkat says, simples!

It’s located a mere 2 min walk from Lenzie Railway Station, so it’s a short skip really by train, or car, from Glasgow.  Since opening in 2012 they been named the winner of the BBC Good Food ShowGlasgow’s Best Deli’ twice, in 2013 and 2014 – as well as being voted ‘Best Independent Retailer 2015’ at the East Dunbartonshire Business Awards.

Today\’s prize is a meal for two at Bella Napoli

Located in the heart of Shawlands, Bella Napoli has been around forever, but it\’s not one of those jaded Italian restaurants. Owner Domenico obviously loves his bling and style. Have you seen their 24K Gold covered pizza oven?

The restaurant is in two parts with the front area containing cosy booths, bar area as well as take-away area. (try stopping yourself buying some of the cakes to take home!)
